As lovers of Scandinavian living, Vanessa and Erik couldn't resist when the wooden house across the street came up for sale. They transformed it into an inviting retreat for their outdoorsy family.

Major renovation

For twelve years, we looked out our kitchen window at the house we live in now, Vanessa explains. "What I always loved about it is that it looks like a Scandinavian country house. When it came up for sale, we immediately started dreaming of living next door. We had to do a lot of renovations, but I really enjoyed that. As a hobby, I regularly helped friends and acquaintances with decorating and styling. Now I had the opportunity to design the layout and interior of an entire house, and I was very good at it."

Joyful

The unplanned purchase of a new house added a major project to Vanessa and Erik's life. Especially since it required quite a bit of work. The interior required a major renovation, and the garden also needed a thorough overhaul. "My heart just raced when this job came our way," Vanessa says excitedly. "For fun, I regularly helped friends and acquaintances with decorating and styling. Now I had the opportunity to design the layout and interior of an entire house. I immediately noticed that I not only really enjoyed it, but that I was also very good at it, from gathering ideas and creating mood boards to coming up with the floor plan, planning, and execution. I designed some of the furniture myself, like the large TV cabinet downstairs and the tall cabinet in the bedroom. It's such a thrill when you design something, then it's built, and it turns out exactly how you envisioned it."
